PROJECT PROFILE
Large Vertical CNC Machine Installation and Machine Safety System Integration
Description
A manufacturing client required the installation of a large vertical CNC machining center to expand production capability and increase manufacturing capacity. The project required significant engineering, automation, and project management expertise to integrate the machine into an existing facility while improving safety, accessibility, and long-term operational reliability.
PTS provided complete project and construction management services, including schedule and budget management, ITAR-compliant construction oversight, and jobsite safety management. Our Engineering team designed a load-rated sunken machine foundation, surrounding pit, stormwater drain encasement, and supporting infrastructure capable of accommodating substantial machine and operational loads. Additional scope included non-slip machine table plates, surrounding floor plates, grated chip auger covers, and other support structures throughout the work cell.
To further enhance the installation, PTS performed equipment relocation, utility infrastructure routing, work-cell beautification, and 6S implementation activities. Our team also reviewed equipment bills of material and developed spare parts recommendations to help reduce future downtime risk.
As part of the overall machine installation, the PTS Automation team designed and implemented a modern machine safety system to provide controlled personnel access during maintenance and setup activities while preserving existing machine functionality and production performance. The solution utilized a networked safety architecture incorporating distributed safety devices, safety PLC controls, operator interface development, and integrated diagnostics.
The scope included electrical design, safety circuit integration, PLC safety programming, HMI development, industrial networking, commissioning, and system validation. The resulting safety platform improved diagnostics, simplified troubleshooting, and provided coordinated access control throughout the machining work cell.
This project required close coordination between our Engineering, Automation, and Project Management teams. The completed installation provides the client with enhanced machining capability, improved operator safety, increased operational efficiency, and a scalable platform designed to support reliable manufacturing operations for years to come.
