Make Up Air and New Conveyor
Description
Problem: Product was not cooling properly thus leading to quality issues. PTS determined the cause of quality issues, and installed a new cooling conveyor.
Solution: After investigating possible causes, an air balance was completed and results determined that there was not enough air being returned to the roasting room to replace the air being removed by all the exhaust fans for the roasters and cooling conveyors. A new Make Up Air unit was sized to supply the current shortage of air and included enough for planned upgrades to the roasting room. Then the roof was analyzed to confirm that it would support the weight of the new unit.
A new cooling conveyor was also designed for the production line that was suffering the worse of the quality issues. The new conveyor pulls air through the product, more efficiently cooling the product as compared to the previous design. Removal of the existing conveyor, installation of the new conveyor, roof penetration and ductwork install had to be scheduled around production that runs 6 to 7 days a week.
